Buxton voted Player of the Year

29 April 2013

Lewis Buxton has been voted as the swfc.co.uk 2012/13 Player of the Year.

Last week, the polls were open for fans to select their Player of the Year via the official website and the Owls defender took the honours with 35 per cent of the vote.

The 29-year-old, who is into his fifth campaign at Hillsborough, has made 43 appearances this season and has been a mainstay in the Owls’ rearguard throughout the term.

Buxton said: “I’m really happy and would like to thank everybody who took the time to vote, I really appreciate that.

“It’s a shame the season hasn’t gone as well as we had wanted but hopefully we can finish the season on a high with a win on Saturday and stay in the Championship.

“When it’s the fans that have voted for you, it always means a lot. It’s been a difficult season but the supporters have always come in their numbers and really spurred us on. We have needed them.”

Close behind Buxton in the Player of the Year vote was Chris Kirkland with 27 per cent, followed by Anthony Gardner and Michail Antonio in joint-third place with 11 per cent.

Thank you to all supporters who took the time to cast their vote.
