It's in our hands

27 April 2013

Despite the defeat at fellow strugglers Peterborough on Saturday, the Owls’ destiny remains in their own hands – and that is the key message from Dave Jones.

The Owls head into the Hillsborough clash with Middlesbrough next week knowing a win will guarantee survival and Jones is confident his side will see the job through.

He said: “It’s in our hands and that’s all we can ask. If you’d have given me that at the start of the season, I’d have taken it.

“We’ve worked so hard to get to where we are and we don’t want to see all that hard work go to waste.”

On the Posh contest, Jones reflected:

“It was always going to be a tight game and it was always going to take the kind of goal that settled it to win it.

“We haven’t created that much and I thought we were under par in the first half.

“We were better in the second half but we couldn’t get the breakthrough.

“But listen, the lads have given everything this season so I’m not going to start knocking them now.”

Jones says his side have the advantage ahead of the Boro game and it is now up to the Owls to take it:

“It’s up to us. Our confidence will be there for that game, just like it has been there all season.

“We’ve had our highs and we’ve had our lows but there’s always been a great atmosphere around the place.

“We play Middlesbrough next week and I can’t say it enough times – we are one point better off than three teams down there and it stays in our hands.”
