Squad visits soccer camp

11 April 2013

Sheffield Wednesday’s Easter Soccer Camp scored big with local kids who received a special visit from the Owls squad.

More than 200 children attended the popular football sessions, held at the SWFC Training Ground, and were lucky enough to meet the first team players.

Much to the youngsters’ delight, the Owls stars spent the afternoon having a kick around with the kids and answering their questions as well as signing autographs and posing for photographs.

Harry Gill, aged nine, who has been attending the Soccer Camps for the past two years, was over the moon to meet his hero Leroy Lita.

“It was brilliant when my favourite player Lita turned up along with the rest of the players; he answered all of our questions about what it’s like to be a footballer and even helped me with my striking skills.”

Afterwards, Lita said: “I remember how much I looked up to footballers when I was young so I know it means a lot to these kids to meet the players they support from the stands.

“Soccer Camps at Sheffield Wednesday are fantastic and a great way for aspiring footballers to improve their game - it’s easy to see why they are so popular.”

The camps, hosted by trained coaches from the club’s Community Programme, offer young Owls, aged five to 14, the chance to learn valuable football skills in a fun and safe environment.

The next SWFC Soccer Camp runs through the Spring Bank Holiday from Tuesday 28 to Friday 31 May. To book your place please call: 0114 221 2215 or email: community@swfc.co.uk
