Terriers hold Wednesday

19 April 2013

The Sheffield Wednesday Under-21s drew 1-1 with Huddersfield at Middlewood Road.

The Owls gained the initiative after just four minutes when Caolan Lavery's driven cross was met by Gary Madine who slotted the ball past Lloyd Allinson.

Huddersfield began to gain a foothold in the game and created numerous chances with Jordan Sinnott coming close for the Terriers with a well struck freekick in the 17th minute.

The visitors got back on level terms shortly after the interval. A long punt forward from a goal kick fell to Chris Atkinson, who fired the ball past Adam Davies in the 49th minute.

An energised and much livelier Owls side looked to regain their lead from the restart with good chances coming for Lavery and Paul Corry.

Corry fizzed a thunderous shot on goal in the 60th minute but it was saved by Allinson moments before Corry’s freekick found Lavery, who nodded it over the bar from six yards.

Matthew Fletcher almost won the game for the Owls late in the second half but his curled low shot hit the post and bounced out of play for a goal kick.

Owls: Davies, Williams (Fletcher 45), McKenzie, Fenwick, Harvey, White, Corry, Colson (Obileye 70), Mayor, Lavery, Madine (Hinchliffe 45)
