Tough test

26 April 2013

Dave Jones is anticipating a tough test against Peterborough on Saturday when the Owls conclude their away fixtures this term at London Road.

And with both clubs battling to retain their Championship status, the Wednesday manager says both teams will be all out to secure victory in front of the live Sky TV cameras:

“This is a huge game and one that we go into with a point so we want to emerge from it with at least that.

“But we want all three because I could not send out a team to do anything else but win the game.

“Peterborough are battling for their lives so make no mistake, this will be a tough test.

“They score goals, they have beaten some good teams but we have done exactly the same thing, so we know what we are capable of.

“In kicking off late, we might know what we have to do and we will be completely focused on that, whatever happens in the games before.”

The Owls go into the basement battle knowing that victory would mathematically secure their place in the second tier next term.

And Jones will store great pride if that objective is achieved this weekend.

He explained: “Keeping this club in the Championship will be just as great an achievement as getting promotion last season.

“You only have to look at how clubs who came down from the Premiership have struggled this season.

“The Championship is relentless. It’s one of the hardest divisions to stay in and get out of to the Premiership.

“Everyone is after the same thing, everyone is chasing the Holy Grail.”
