At our best

6 August 2013

Attention turns to the Capital One Cup this evening for the Owls who face League 1 side Rotherham and Dave Jones insists Wednesday must be at their best to progress.

Jones believes the Owls must be right in all departments ahead of the clash at The New York Stadium with a place in the second round at stake.

Ahead of the local derby, Jones said: “We’ve got an opportunity to try and get the QPR result out of our system and get a win under our belt.

“The intensity of the training has been high and we’re well prepared for it.

“It’s a local derby which always adds an extra edge to the game, especially for the supporters and we’ll have to be at our best.

“We have to play at our best to beat a team that is doing well with good players, a good manager and good coaching staff.

“They have done well, gained promotion, it’s a derby and we have to go about our business as usual in order to get the result we want.”

With games coming thick and fast in the early throes of the new season, Jones wants the Owls to get into a winning habit at the earliest opportunity and added:

“If you are winning games, believe me, it’s a good habit to get into, no matter what competition or league you are competing in.

“You have to go out and believe you can win every game, even when you come up against some of the biggest sides in the country.

“We faced one of the favourites to win the division on the opening day and it could have gone either way and we felt we deserved something.

“We played really well at QPR but sometimes things go against you. Tonight, we’ve got another opportunity to get off the mark."
