The new season cannot come around quick enough for Michail Antonio, who is eager to get back into the thick of the action for Wednesday.

The 23-year-old hasn’t featured in a league game for the Owls since suffering a groin injury in March but has his sights set on Saturday’s showdown against QPR.

Speaking to swfc.co.uk ahead of the trip to Loftus Road, he said: “The season has arrived and I’m really looking forward to it.

“The pre-season games have gone well for me, I’ve scored goals and that’s what I want to bring into the new season.

“It was frustrating to miss the last few games of last season but that feeling of disappointment has made me determined to come back even stronger.

“I can’t wait to put that shirt on and get back out on the pitch in the Championship for this club.”

It promises be a tough introduction to the 2013/14 campaign for Wednesday with a game on the road against Harry Redknapp’s QPR side.

The R’s are, unsurprisingly, favourites to top the division and achieve promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt but, unphased by the challenge ahead, Antonio is heading to the capital full of confidence.

He said: “It’s an exciting time. It’s a massive game, kicking off your season against QPR. They’ve just come down from the Premiership and they’ll want to bounce straight back.

“But we’re going down to Loftus Road looking for three points.

“I feel we have got the players capable of competing with any team in this league so playing one of the favourites to be promoted in the first game isn’t a problem.”
