Fine lines

3 August 2013

Dave Jones highlighted the fine lines between defeat and victory following the Owls’ 2-1 reverse at QPR on Saturday.

Wednesday kicked off the campaign in controversial style, with two penalty claims at key points in the game declined.

And Jones says that can be the difference between success and failure:

“It is fine lines and you want the big decisions to be the right ones. Unfortunately, it didn’t go our way today and it is really disappointing.

“The first one is a penalty and the second one is as clear cut as you are going to see.

“But it hasn’t gone for us and there is nothing we can do about it now.

“It could have gone either way and we certainly deserved something from the game.

“We’ve hit the post, we could have had another couple but it wasn’t our day.

“We’ve switched off for a crucial spell of the game and you can’t do that.”

Jones was boosted, though, by the introduction of new signing Atdhe Nuhiu, who put the Owls in the lead on his debut before Rangers hit back to win the game.

The manager said: “He took his goal really well and I am pleased for him. He’s not been with us for long and he’s not match fit but he’s getting there and it will come.

“He’s a big lad, he has good feet and he will do well for us.”
