Owls Under-21 coach Lee Bullen has reflected positively on his side’s start to the season after opening with a 3-2 win over Coventry.

The game kick-started a campaign that, for the Wednesday Development squad, will see all home fixtures staged at Hillsborough.

With that in mind, Bullen was pleased by how his squad handled the occasion.

He told swfc.co.uk: “We’ve seen it already with young Caolan Lavery and Rafa Floro getting an opportunity.

“These players may be called up to the first team at any time.

“If they have never played on the pitch before, never mind with thousands of people watching, then it’s quite a daunting experience.

“There may have only been a small crowd watching the game but it’s about them getting used to the environment.”

On the Sky Blues clash, two goals from Lavery and a Rhys McCabe free kick helped get Wednesday off to a winning start and Bullen added:

“I was delighted to get the win but I thought we should have been out of sight by half time to be honest.

“There were things for us to mprove upon but overall, starting with a relatively strong side, we fully deserved to win the game.

“It was a great experience for the young boys to be playing alongside experienced players at Hillsborough."
