Soccer camp surprise

16 August 2013

Youngsters enjoyed a special treat when three of their heroes turned up at a football camp this week.

Midfield trio Rhys McCabe, Giles Coke and Paul Corry dropped in to the Summer Soccer Camp at the SWFC Training Ground to meet the unsuspecting children.

The players took part in a question and answer session with the group before having a kick about and sharing their top tips for aspiring young footballers.

James Gill, aged ten, has been attending the Soccer Camps for three years and was delighted to meet his idols.

“It was a brilliant surprise when the players turned up; they answered everyone’s question about what life is like for a footballer and even taught us a few skills.

“I’ve been to the soccer camps at Sheffield Wednesday lots of times and always enjoy it... my little brother even comes with me now too!”

After the visit, Coke said: “I really enjoyed meeting the kids and so did the other lads, it’s always a nice thing to do because we all remember being their age and looking up to professional players.

“The Soccer Camps here are absolutely fantastic and give kids something fun to do during the school holiday."

Sheffield Wednesday hosts a range of football and multi-sports camps during all school breaks at locations across the city and further afield.

The camps are hosted by full-qualified football coaches from the SWFC Community Team and are open to youngsters of all abilities between the ages of five and 14.
