The Owls’ Under-18s saw their season kick off with a narrow 3-2 defeat at Birmingham.
Jake Ellam scored both goals for Wednesday but it was not enough to prevent a home win.
Coach Steve Haslam said: “It was a gutsy performance and we are disappointed to lose the game.
“We were 2-1 up and had a great chance to make it 3-1 but didn’t take it.”
The Under-18s’ next game is on home soil against Sheffield United (11.00am) on Saturday 24 August.
