Celebrate with lights

9 December 2013

Two Sheffield Wednesday stars will be celebrating with lights this Christmas as they help illuminate the grounds of local children’s hospice Bluebell Wood.

Miguel Llera and Giles Coke will turn on the festive lights at the North Anston-based hospice on Sunday 15 December and supporters can join in the celebrations too.

Whether you want to remember a loved one, or support Bluebell Wood by celebrating the lives of their children, you are invited to join their ‘Celebrate with Lights’.

Supporters who dedicate a light at the hospice will be sent an invite to the special ceremony where Owls players will switch on hundreds of lights to recognise each donation and create a magical wonderland for the children to enjoy over the festive period.

The ceremony will also include the singing of carols and other Christmas songs, along with hot drinks and mince pies.

If your donation is in memory of a loved one their name will be acknowledged in Bluebell Wood’s Book of Light, available to view at the hospice or online from 20 December until 12th night.

In addition you will receive a personalised card for each name.

Donations made to celebrate the lives of our children will receive a special thank you card.

There is no minimum donation but for all gifts of £10 or over you will receive a lapel badge in recognition of your gift.

All donations received will be used to develop the sensory garden which will stimulate all the children’s senses and enhance the time they spend outside in the garden.

Head of Fundraising at Bluebell Wood Helen Mower said: "We're thrilled to have two players from Sheffield Wednesday Football Club to join us in switching our lights.

"This is the first time we have lit up the hospice and we're really excited to create this magical wonderland of light for our children and families to enjoy over the festive period and we'd like to thank everyone who has donated and dedicated a light."

Llera added: “Giles and I feel honoured to have been invited to Bluebell Wood’s Celebrate with Lights ceremony and asked to switch on their Christmas lights.

“Bluebell Wood is the official charity of the club’s Community Programme and the players have seen first-hand the amazing work they do, anything supporters can donate this Christmas would make a huge difference to the children and families they support all year round.”
