Wednesday posted a hard-earned Boxing Day point against Blackburn and kept an encouraging clean sheet to boot.
There were no goals at Ewood Park and only marginally more opportunities, with the best of the few created falling to the Lancashire side.
But with the recalled Chris Kirkland in dominant form for the Owls, Rovers had to settle for a share of the spoils from a game they just about edged.
Stuart Gray rang the changes for the Ewood clash, with the most notable move that of Kirkland returning between the sticks in place of Damian Martinez.
Elsewhere, Glenn Loovens recovered from a back spasm to line up alongside Roger Johnson at the heart of the defence and Stephen McPhail came back into the engine room.
Jeremy Helan also started, while Chris Maguire took a place on the bench following the expiry of his successful loan spell with Coventry.
The Owls were on the front foot from the whistle, almost taking the lead with barely two minutes on the clock.
McPhail sent a wicked free kick into the danger zone and Atdhe Nuhiu got the merest of glances to a header that Simon Eastwood did well to push past the post.
Rovers responded with dangerman Jordan Rhodes going close from a quick free kick before the game settled into a relatively even affair.
The Owls enjoyed a brief spell of pressure midway through the half without troubling Eastwood but Kirkland was forced into action twice before the interval.
First, he saved from ex-Owl Ben Marshall, then Kirkland diverted a goal-bound effort from Rhodes.
Eastwood, though, finished the first half the busiest of the two keepers, athletically tipping a Nuhiu header over the bar following another accurate delivery from McPhail.
And the visitors started the second 45 in confident mood, spreading the ball well, although it was the home side that carved the first clear-cut chance when Rudy Gestede broke free on goal only to shoot straight at Kirkland.
Blackburn began to boss possession but Wednesday held out well, restricting Rovers to pot shots with no real threat – until Rhodes was a whisker away on 75 minutes after good work down the left from Josh King.
The hosts threw on forward Ruben Rochina near the end but the pattern of the second half remained, with Wednesday holding firm to emerge with a platform for Sunday’s trip to Charlton.
