Dave Jones says that Wednesday should have taken all three points from Tuesday night’s game against Birmingham at St Andrew’s.

The Owls fashioned the better of the chances in a hard fought contest and Jones insists with a little more belief, the game was there for the taking.

He said: “I am pleased with the point because it keeps the run going and everything else but I really think we should have had all three.

“I think with just that bit more belief in the final third, the game was there to be won.

“Birmingham are a good side, they played well, but we scared them to death in the last half-hour with our pace in the attack.

“Chris Kirkland hasn’t really had a save to make and that shows the way that we are playing. We are a real threat and like I say, I think we should have won this game.

“There are plenty of positives to take and not least another clean sheet and positive performance.”

The Owls’ boss issued an injury update on Anthony Gardner, who suffered a thigh strain during Wednesday’s outing against Derby ten days ago.

Gardner missed out in the Midlands as a result and will be assessed ahead of Saturday’s home contest against Crystal Palace.

Jones said: “Anthony picked up the injury against Derby and to be fair, he’s had a really good run in the team.

“We will look at it before the game against Palace and take it from there.

“But the good thing is that Martin Taylor came in tonight and did really well. I think he’s got that monkey off his back now because he’s had some stick but tonight he has shown what he is all about.

“The competition for places is strong and as I have always said, without competition, you have nothing.”
