Owls hit back in derby clash

25 February 2013

The Sheffield Wednesday Under-21s came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Sheffield United at Shirecliffe on Monday afternoon.

The Blades took the lead after 14 minutes as Erik Tonne whipped in a dangerous corner that fell kindly to Jordan Chapell who fired home a low, hard volley.

Diego De Girolamo put the home side two goals to the good from the penalty spot just after the half-hour mark.

But Wednesday responded well and pulled a goal back on the stroke of half time.

Bastien Hery's corner picked out striker Emmanuel Dieseruvwe, who nodded the ball past the United keeper.

The momentum had shifted in the second half and the Owls were looking strong and dangerous and thus found their equaliser on 68 minutes.

A superb individual effort from Niall Smith gave Wednesday a well-deserved leveller.

The full back carried the ball from his own half, before firing a low driven shot into the bottom left corner.

United's Joe Ironside found the back of the net with a late effort but the goal was ruled out for offside and with no further action, the game finished 2-2.

Owls: Jameson, White, McKenzie, Hague (Ayoola 45), Fenwick, Smith, Hinchliffe, Obileye, Hery, Hooper, Dieseruvwe
