Settling in

6 February 2013

Development Squad duo Caolan Lavery and Matthew Fletcher have settled in well at their respective loan clubs and first team boss Dave Jones has urged the pair to make the most of their time away from Hillsborough.

Lavery has joined League 2 outfit Southend until the end of the season and the 20-year-old has so far made two appearances for Paul Sturrock’s side - both resulting in 1-0 wins over Oxford (League 2) and Leyton Orient (JPT).

Likewise, Fletcher, 20, has stored two appearances for Cambridge United and has aided his loan club to back to back wins in the Blue Square Bet Premier division.

The young Australian is due to stay with United for one month.

Wednesday manager Dave Jones said: “We are hoping Caolan is going to learn from it. He has got the safety net of coming back to us.

“We have got a very good player in Caolan but it is a little bit different playing in front of 50 people in the Under-21s than in front of 5,000 at Southend.

On fellow Owls Under-21 striker Fletcher, Jones added: “It’s all part and parcel of their education. Young Matthew is playing at Cambridge and we only place our players at football clubs where we think they are going to benefit."
