Sponsorship boost for Community Programme

The Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme is set to launch a new sports scheme thanks to sponsorship from a South Yorkshire company.

Rotherham-based firm DSR Demolition are sponsoring the club’s charitable arm to the tune of £40,000, which will be used to finance a brand new community project.

In a further boost, the Community Programme has managed to secure an additional £40,000 from Sportsmatch, which awards not-for-profit organisations that have secured sponsorship to deliver sports-based projects for young people and adults.

The project, named the ‘Any-body Club’, will provide opportunities for people who find it difficult to access different sports and activities.

Dominic Ogden, director at DSR Demolition, said: “We are delighted to be joining forces with the Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme and to be involved in such a worthwhile project.

“We hope our sponsorship will go a long way in helping the young people of Sheffield have access to a wide variety of sports.”

As well as encouraging people to get active and become inspired, the Any-body Club will also raise awareness about the barriers faced by disabled people who play sport.

Overseen by a specialised disability officer, the scheme will be delivered by experienced coaches in conjunction with both Universities in the city to enable disabled and non-disabled participants to buddy up.

SFC community manager Marcus Brameld said: “The Community Programme has a long-standing relationship with DSR Demolition and are extremely pleased to be working with them on this exciting new project which will allow more people than ever to participate in the activities we have on offer.”
