Everything but the goal

19 January 2013

Dave Jones spoke of his disappointment at the Owls not having beaten Wolves despite dominating the Midlands side at Hillsborough.

The Owls did everything but score in an impressive display, creating a raft of chances but falling short of putting the ball in the back of the net.

Jones said:  “The only thing we haven’t done today is get the goal and that’s the disappointing thing but we’re not looking at anything negative, we’re looking at the positives.

“I thought we were the better side today, we got the ball down, we wanted to play and we’ve created 17 chances but not scored.

“Chris Kirkland has had nothing to do all afternoon, we defended magnificently against a big, strong side that was in the Premiership last season.

“That’s four points from two difficult games and we would have taken that.”

Jones praised the overall endeavour of his team and took heart from the amount of chances his side created, adding:

“That’s the main thing, because we are creating the chances, it’s not as if we’re not getting into the positions.

“It’s just that final ball, that little bit of a caress in front of goal. But last week we scored three goals and might have had five or more so it’s just the way it goes sometimes.

“But listen, we’re getting there, the players are getting there. They do seem to have adapted, they are a great bunch of players to work with and there’s a great atmosphere around the place.”
