In the hat

5 January 2013

Dave Jones stressed the importance of being in the hat for the next round of the FA Cup following the Owls’ goalless draw with MK Dons on Saturday.

In a far from exciting third round encounter in S6, neither side did enough to secure entry to round four, which the manager acknowledged speaking to the press after the game.

He said: “The main thing is that we are in the hat for the next round. If you’re not going to win the game you have to make sure you don’t lose it.

“So we look at the positives and we have another clean sheet and the draw to look forward to.

“We know what we need to do and we have to go down there and get the result in ten days’ time.

“The game just didn’t really get going and sometimes you get that in football.

“It’s up to the players to spark the crowd rather than the other way round and we didn’t quite do that today.

“But I don’t see it as a negative in that it’s another game on the fixture list because this is still the biggest cup competition in the world and we want to stay in it.

“You look at the results today and there will be plenty of teams wishing they were still in the hat for the next round.”

* The replay at Stadium MK is scheduled to take place on Tuesday 15 January (7.45pm).
