Options for Owls

25 January 2013

Dave Jones is pleased with his options available this weekend as the Wednesday manager prepares his side to face Charlton at The Valley.

With few players in the treatment room and the addition of loan pair Leroy Lita and Danny Pugh, Wednesday look in good shape heading into the clash against the Addicks on Saturday.

“It’s only one or two players we are waiting on,” Jones said.

“Normally at this time of year, given the amount of games you’ve played, your medical room can be quite full. So we’ve been lucky on that.

“We’ve managed to bring in two quality players to the squad in Leroy and Danny and we’re really pleased we have been able to sign them in time for this game.”

In terms of attacking options, the Owls have been bolstered by the addition of Lita, who has penned a loan deal at the club until the end of the season.

Alongside Lita, who is also eligible to make his Owls debut in the capacity, Michail Antonio and Jermaine Johnson have proved effective higher up the pitch with a number of menacing performances.

Jones has welcomed ex-Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler to train with the squad recently and hopes the likes of Antonio can benefit from his influence around the training ground with over 200 goals to his name in a prolific career at the highest level.

Jones said: “Michail is a young lad and learning his trade, that’s why we’ve brought in someone like Robbie Fowler to train with the squad because you can see his composure.

“What’s the best way of learning? You pick things up off other people. When you see someone like Robbie, if you have anything about you, you learn from him and pick up good habits.

“We’re talking to Michail, getting him in better positions and he’s doing really well up there. Jermaine Johnson is doing well in that position too and we’re trying to mix them up.”

On the Addicks, Jones continued: “They change a little bit depending on whether they play at home or away.

“At home they press you high, they get players forward and they have got good footballers.

“They’re on a good run at the moment, just as good as what we’re on and they’ll want to continue to do that.”
