Dave Jones hailed his team as outstanding following the Owls’ 3-1 win at KC Stadium.

Wednesday turned in arguably their most impressive performance of the season so far to post three vital points in East Yorkshire and move out of the bottom three.

Jones said: “They deserved everything they got today because the players, all of them, were outstanding.

“I’m sure we surprised a few people with the line-up but with that team playing it was always going to cause problems for Hull because of the pace going forward.

“We had a right go at them and we’ve come away with a win and I would have been disappointed with anything else.”

Jones gave credit to the referee’s assistant for raising his flag and giving Wednesday a goal when Hull keeper Eldin Jakupovic appeared to drop the ball over the line from Miguel Llera’s corner.

The goal came at a critical time late in the game just minutes after Hull had cancelled out Reda Johnson’s first half opener.

Michail Anotnio then applied the final coating of gloss.

Jones said: “I think we have to give credit to that linesman because he called it absolutely right and that was good to see.

“I think we should have also had a second goal when we were 1-0 up because I can’t see a foul. Sometimes you get the decisions and sometimes you don’t.”
