Walk 92 reaches S6

24 January 2013

An adventurous football fan called into Hillsborough as part of an ambitious bid to walk to all 92 English football grounds during the 2012/13 season.

Scott McLachlan, 44, set off from his native Portsmouth at the end of August and is aiming to raise at least £9,200 for the Football League’s charity Prostate Cancer UK.

“Combatting prostate cancer is a priority,” explained Scott. “It affects one in every eight men and as we all know a lot of men watch football so it was the perfect charity for Walk 92.”

In order to complete the walk Scott has given up his job and will be walking a total of 2,400 miles. His trip is entirely self-funded relying on supporters from the clubs he visits to give him a bed for the night.

Arriving at S6 on Saturday marked club number 56 in the challenge and Scott celebrated with a well-earned rest, taking a seat in the South Stand to watch the Owls v Wolves.

Earlier in the day he received a special behind-the-scenes tour of Hillsborough and met some of the first team including striker Gary Madine and goalkeeper Chris Kirkland who signed his sovereign flag which he takes to every ground.

Scott added: "I am very grateful to the staff at Hillsborough for giving me a great reception, showing me around the ground and helping me to promote Walk92, hopefully it will encourage Wednesday fans to donate to this great cause.”
