Glad with the workout and a good test – that was the verdict of Dave Jones following his side’s 1-0 win over Rangers.
An entertaining friendly encounter saw the Owls edge out their Scottish counterparts in an electric atmosphere at Hillsborough.
Around 5,000 fans made the long journey south and more than made their voices heard in the crowd of over 16,000.
Jones said: “The atmosphere was great and the players to it, I thought.
“I knew our lot would make their usual noise and the Rangers fans certainly made their voices heard so all together, a cracking atmosphere.
“I was pleased with the way we played in parts but we are still getting there and we have played here tonight on the back of a lot of recent travelling.
“There were some tired legs out there towards the end and as I keep saying, it’s all about the fitness now and getting the players fully up to speed.
“It was a good game and a good test.”
Jones cleared up why Chris Kirkland was withdrawn at half time, explaining the goalkeeper was suffering from illness.
He said: “Chrissie felt a bit ill yesterday but he thought he was okay to play tonight.
“He started to feel a bit nauseous, though, so there was no sense in keeping him out there.
“Adam Davies came on and got some good game time and that will be a great experience for him too.”
