Dave Jones is looking forward to getting back on home soil ahead of the Owls’ pre-season friendly with Scottish giants Rangers.

Wednesday have just returned from a week-long training camp in Portugal, a trip that incorporated two games against Braga and Hull.

Tonight sees the Owls host their only friendly before the big Championship kick-off on 3 August and Jones said:

“It’s always nice to return to your own ground for a pre-season friendly and in our case, particularly after spending a week out of the country and playing the two games we did in Portugal.

“The players worked very hard out there and looked sharp, fit and lean. Myself and the staff were extremely pleased with how the lads stuck to the summer programmes they were given and it showed once pre-season began.

“Now we’re all looking forward to playing back at Hillsborough in our familiar surroundings.”

The Owls’ boss is expecting a typically British encounter in what he anticipates will be a cracking atmosphere in S6.

Rangers have sold their entire allocation just shy of 5,000 and home fans are expected to swell the gate over the 15,000 mark.

Jones added: “Tonight will be more the type of football we are used to, so as long as we come through the game injury free, we will take the benefits of another 90 minutes, how fit the players are and how sharp we are looking.

“But this is a good game for us because Rangers are a good team and they are bringing almost 5,000 supporters to Hillsborough so with our fans in good voice too, it should make for a cracking atmosphere for a pre-season friendly.”
