The Owls Under-21s produced a battling performance away at Buxton on Tuesday evening drawing 1-1 at Silverlands.
The home side went in at half time with a 1-0 advantage after Lee Morris put his side in front on 36 minutes with a header from close range.
The young Wednesday side fought back after the break and got their just rewards when Adam Hinchliffe fired the Owls level after 48 minutes.
Development Squad coach Lee Bullen saw plenty of positives from the game, not least of all the improvement from this same stage last season, when his Under-21 side went down 4-1 to Buxton 12 months ago.
Bullen said: “Last year we lost 4-1 but this time around I was really pleased with the work ethic and the quality of our possession football.
“We dominated the game for big spells without really testing their goalkeeper.
“Disappointed to come in 1-0 down at half time but after the break our passes were much slicker and their experienced goalkeeper Andy Warrington made four or five great saves.
“Adam scored a fantastic goal and we possibly deserved more than a draw. I was pleased with the back four who were 16, 17, 17 and 19 years old.
