Dave Jones was pleased with the workout as his Wednesday side posted a 1-0 win against Scunthorpe on Saturday.
The pre-season contest at Glanford Park was played in glorious sunshine that served as an added fitness boost ahead of the trip to Portugal, where the Owls will be based for a week.
Jones said: “It was sweltering out there today but it can only do the players good.
“This stage of pre-season is all about the fitness and although it is nice to win any game, what we are looking for now is the lads moving in the right direction.
“That was a good test for us and we have come through it okay. Scunthorpe played some nice football but I thought we were good value for the win.”
Jones quelled any injury fears over Michail Antonio, who limped out of the action moments after the second half resumption.
He also issued updates on absent duo Lewis Buxton and Reda Johnson:
“Michail just got a kick on the toe, it’s nothing serious and we took him off purely as a precautionary measure.
“With Lewis, he felt his shins a little so we kept him out of this game but he will be fine.
“Reda should be playing before the season starts. He’s feeling some tendonitis in his foot – it’s not the same injury that he suffered last season and hopefully we can get him back out there soon.”
