Taylor encouraged

Martin Taylor has said the Owls will benefit from playing against quality opposition in the form Braga on Tuesday evening.

Although Wednesday went down 3-1 against the Portuguese side, who were involved at the Champions League group stage last season, Taylor saw plenty to be encouraged by during the 90 minutes.

The powerful central defender bagged his second goal of pre-season with a firm first half header that gave the Owls a 1-0 lead.

He told swfc.co.uk: “Things are going really well, the lads are training hard and we had a decent workout yesterday against Braga.

“Although the result didn’t quite go our way, we played very well, especially in the first half.

“I seem to be getting on the end of things at the moment, there have been some great deliveries into the middle and that’s pleasing because we have been working on that.

“The training drills have paid dividends because we have scored a few goals from those situations.

“To be dangerous from set pieces is a great bonus.”

Following the Braga friendly on Tuesday, the squad are now set to continue their preparations at their Portguese training base before facing newly promoted Premier League side Hull on Saturday.

The friendly encounter against the Tigers will represent a more familiar challenge for Wednesday and Taylor is looking forward to another tough workout.

“The Hull game should be a good one and a little bit more like what we are used to and what we are going to come up against in the season.

“But equally as important is the fitness side of things which is what pre-season is all about and on that front, the week is going really well for the boys at the moment.”
