Wednesday reach futsal finals

4 July 2013

The Sheffield Wednesday futsal first team scholars have qualified for the national finals in Birmingham taking place on Saturday 6 July.

After a slow start to the season the team have improved dramatically to qualify from the North West League and progress through the stages to reach the finals.

This is the first year teams representing SWFC have competed in futsal as part of the BTEC National Extended Diploma in Sport education programme.

Futsal is one of the fastest growing sports in the world and the scholarship programme with the club’s Community Programme provides an opportunity for 16-19-year-olds to get involved.

The programme offers young people a first class education that can lead to university while also giving them the chance to train and compete in a professional futsal environment.

If you are aged between 16 and 18 and have footballing experience then you could join our futsal scholarship programme starting this September.

Sheffield Wednesday is offering a two year Level 3 BTEC National Extended Diploma in Sport (equivalent of three A levels) and a chance to represent SWFC in the national futsal league.

You will need to have a minimum of four GCSEs at grade C or above including maths and English and a keen interest in sport.
