In this instalment of ‘Classic Games’, Wednesday Player looks back at the League Cup third round clash between the Owls and Sheffield United at Hillsborough in November 2000.
In the first competitive fixture between the two Steel City rivals for six years, the game went the distance with the score locked at 1-1 after 90 minutes.
Efan Ekoku’s opening goal was cancelled out by Michael Brown in the first half.
Into extra time the game went and it was Ekoku who settled the clash after 115 minutes.
Owen Morrison’s centre from the left was met with a firm header from the Nigerian, which nestled into the back of the net with Blades keeper Simon Tracey unable to keep the ball from crossing the line.
