A match for anyone

14 March 2013

Manager Dave Jones has said his side must be at their best this weekend for the visit of Cardiff but believes Wednesday are a match for anyone in the Championship.

Cardiff will arrive at Hillsborough with a four-point cushion at the top of the table and with a game in hand over their near promotion rivals.

But the Owls have every reason to feel confident ahead of the next instalment of Championship action following victory over high-flying Leicester last time out and just three losses in 15 games.

Jones said: “We need to be at our best, it’s as simple as that. We are a match for anybody at this level and we’ve proved that time and time again.

“But to get the result we want on Saturday, we’ll have to be at our best.”

In recent weeks, the Owls have claimed notable scalps over teams vying promotion with Crystal Palace and Leicester both going down by a single goal to nil.

The run has seen Wednesday pull four points clear of the drop zone and Jones has stressed the importance of maintaining that kind of form to pull further away from the relegation positions.

“Everybody has to keep their foot to the floor, keep progressing and keep doing the right things,” he added.

“It took us time to adjust to this level, for us to get the right team out there and to get them doing what we want them to do.

“Now we are settled, we are not as naïve, players are performing to the best of their ability and we want to keep that going until the end of the season.

“Then we can build on it, reflect on what’s happened and where we feel we went wrong and what we can do better but the major thing first and foremost is that we stay in this division.”
