Excitement builds

29 March 2013

Owls defender Reda Johnson has told Wednesday Player of his excitement ahead of the derby clash against Barnsley.

A win on Saturday at Hillsborough would see Wednesday leapfrog relegation rivals Barnsley and that is the target for Johnson, who expects a fiercely contested S6 encounter.

In order to take the three points on offer, the towering left back insists the Owls must fight and battle for everything and has said the squad are ready and eager for the game.

“The mood is very good and everyone is enjoying their football at the moment,” he said. “We are all ready for this game. We can’t wait for it to come.

“We are in a position where we have to fight and battle for everything and that has to start on Saturday.”

With fans set to flock to Hillsborough in their droves on Saturday, Johnson believes they will play a huge part in spurring the Owls on to victory.

He added: “We know exactly what we have to do, we know what we are working towards and that is to stay in this division.

“There will be over 30,000 fans coming to support us on Saturday and we will do everything we can for them to stay up and I am confident we can do it.

“This is a derby game and you always want to win these types of games. They are so important to the fans. We are the home team on Saturday and we are going out there to win three points.

“We’ll have the fans right behind us, I think it will be an exciting game and one we are capable of winning.”
