No hiding away

18 March 2013

Danny Pugh believes there is no hiding away from the importance of Wednesday’s upcoming Championship fixtures.

International activity means there will be no game this weekend but following the resumption a week on Saturday, the Owls face a mouth-watering derby clash against Barnsley.

A trip to Bristol City, who currently prop up the division, follows one week later and the outcome of those games will no doubt have huge significance in the battle against relegation.

Pugh said: “The next two games are massive. There is no hiding away from how big and important those fixtures are for this club.

“We know we can’t rely on any other team, we’ve got to concentrate on our own form, our own results and do everything we can to battle our way out of this position.”

For Pugh, the upcoming international break is far from ideal, as the on-loan utility man is eager to put right the wrongs that led to the 2-0 defeat against league leaders Cardiff on Saturday.

Disappointed by the manner the goals were conceded, Pugh said: “We looked at the two goals and believe they both could have been avoided.

“If you get picked apart by a slick passing move or great goal then that’s one thing but we’re disappointed because it was two set pieces.

“After losing a game you always want to get on with the next one as soon as possible.

“We’ve got some massive games ahead and are playing a lot of the teams that are around us.

“There’s plenty to play for, plenty of points on the line and we’re confident we can collect enough of them to climb up the table.

“We will recoup now and come back firing for the next game.”

Tickets are now on general sale for the Owls’ fixture against Barnsley at Hillsborough.
