Under-21s at Hillsborough

20 March 2013

The Sheffield Wednesday Under-21s face Yorkshire rivals Leeds this Friday at Hillsborough (1.00pm).

Lee Bullen’s team are fresh from an impressive 2-1 win at Wigan in midweek and will be out to post a notable double after beating the Whites 4-0 at Thorp Arch earlier in the season.

The Owls are certainly in good form too having fought back from 2-0 down against city rivals United to draw 2-2 at Shirecliffe prior to the win over Wigan.

Development Squad head coach Bullen said: “We’re looking forward to the game. We had a fantastic result up at Leeds earlier in the season, it was one of those games where everything we did seemed to go right and everything Leeds did went wrong.

“After the past couple of good results, we’re hoping we can continue our run of form. It all comes down to a belief in the players’ own ability as individuals and as a team.”

As part of the Development Squad criteria, a select number of games must be played on clubs’ home grounds and the Leeds contest falls into that category.

Bullen said: “It another great test for our young players at Hillsborough. These games are all learning curves for the players. They’re all about discipline and it’s all about gaining experience and being able to handle playing at Hillsborough.

“A big part of this Under-21 league is about development; developing the players to eventually step into a first team environment if required.”
