Active Owls

15 May 2013

Sheffield Wednesday has launched a new initiative to inspire local schoolchildren to get involved in sports.

Active Owls, set up by the SWFC Community Programme, is a multisport programme aimed at motivating and raising self-esteem in individuals giving them the confidence to take part in activities.

An expert team of coaches will deliver football, dance, cricket, athletics, basketball and martial arts tuition across schools in the city in a bid to introduce pupils to sports they have yet to try.

The sports sessions are in line with the national curriculum and help children develop fundamental skills such as agility, balance, coordination and teamwork.

The Community Programme is also able to provide training for school competitions, to help teams achieve success.

Community Development Officer Chris Hardy said: “We are all very excited to launch our Active Owls campaign and inspire youngsters from across Sheffield to try out new activities.

“We hope that by introducing them to new sports; they will uncover hidden talents, grow in confidence and most importantly be encouraged to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.”
