21 May 2013

A Sheffield Wednesday XI will face Blue Square Bet North side Stockport County in a testimonial game for ex-Owls striker Rodger Wylde at Edgeley Park on Tuesday 9 July.

The popular hitman spent eight years at Hillsborough between 1972 and 1980, racking up 168 appearances and scoring 54 goals along the way.

The Sheffield product went on to play for Oldham, Sporting Lisbon, Sunderland, Barnsley and Rotherham before signing for Stockport, where he hung up his boots in 1989 after one season at Edgeley Park.

Upon his retirement, Wylde completed a degree in physiotherapy and was appointed as club physiotherapist at Stockport in March 1989 and has remained in post for 24 years.

In 2006, Wylde was inducted into Stockport’s Hall of Fame.

The friendly contest with Wednesday is scheduled for a 7.45pm kick off, with tickets priced at £10 adults, £5 concessions and kids £3.

Tickets are available from the Edgeley Park Ticket Office on 08456 885799.
