Owls back Poppy Appeal

1 November 2013

Sheffield Wednesday will welcome the Royal British Legion to Hillsborough as official charity partner for the Championship clash with Reading on Saturday.

The organisation, which is launching its annual Poppy Appeal, is the UK's leading service charity providing practical care, advice and support to serving members of the Armed Forces, veterans of all ages and their families.

It takes 350,000 volunteers and staff to organise the Poppy Appeal each year with donations helping to support serving members of the Armed Forces, ex-servicemen and women and their families.

More than 40 million remembrance poppies are made each year and in 2012 the appeal raised a huge £35m with the target this year up to £37m.

Lapel poppies are available to buy in shops, supermarkets, pubs and clubs now and remain on sale until Monday 11 November.

Volunteers from the charity will hold a bucket collection around the ground before kick-off and both SWFC and the Royal British Legion would like to thank everyone in advance for their generosity.
