The striker made six appearances on loan for the Owls between February and March last season.
Wickham hit a crucial strike in his final game for the club away at Leicester before returning to parent club Sunderland, but is delighted to be back in S6 and back on the goal trail.
He told WednesdayPlayer: “I felt I had unfinished business from my last spell. Everything has come together and I’m glad to be back.
“There was interest from other clubs but it was with Wednesday I felt I had unfinished business with and I wanted to come here and help contribute towards us moving forward.”
Wickham has made seven appearances for the Black Cats this season and scored two goals – both coming against MK Dons in the Capital One Cup.
And the ex-Ipswich man is keen to notch his first Owls goal of the season as quickly as possible and is in contention to feature against Reading on Saturday at Hillsborough.
He continued: “It will be a tough game but we're at home and we've got great fans and there's a lot of ability in the team.
“Hopefully once we get that win, we will start pushing on and move in the right direction.
“I know the lads, the manager and the fans and everyone knows me so hopefully I'll settle right in and get back to how we were when I left.
“I felt coming back here was the perfect move and now I want to concentrate on playing football, scoring goals and doing my best for this club.”
