Bees edge academy clash

10 October 2013

The Owls’ Under-18s were narrowly beaten 2-1 at Brentford on Thursday afternoon.

After taking the lead through Sean Mullan in the first half, Brentford hit back through Montell Moore, who converted his spot kick before Bees youngster Michael Onovwigun saw red for a second bookable offence.

Brentford, though, went on to complete the comeback late in the game when Makhosini Khanye fired home to claim three points for the hosts.

Under-18 coach Steve Haslam said: “We fielded a weakened team due to Simon Hanna being on international duty and Franck Betra's inclusion in the Under-21s on Tuesday.

“We’re obviously disappointed to concede such a late goal having taken the lead in the first half.

“But there were a lot of positives today, not least of all the performance of Under-16 player Matt Penney who was outstanding at left back.”
