With Reading in town this weekend, Michail Antonio will be competing against his former employers.

While the Owls ace holds fond memories of the club that gave him his Football League break, Antonio is aiming to play a key role in inflicting defeat upon the Royals on Saturday.

The 23-year-old spent four years at the Madejski – a period that was broken up by multiple loan spells – before eventually penning a permanent deal at Hillsborough in summer 2012.

During Thursday’s pre-match press conference, Antonio said: “I’ve got many good memories from my time at Reading and I owe them a lot. They brought me from non-league and taught me a lot about my trade.

“I give them thanks for everything they have done but I’m coming up against them this weekend and I want to win three points for my team.

“You always watch out for your old clubs, but it’s a different situation now because Reading are in our league and on Saturday, we need to kick-start our season.”

Antonio, who finished the 2012/13 campaign as the club’s top scorer, has two goals to his name so far but is eager to add to that tally.

“I love scoring goals,” Antonio said. “I need that next one to come as quickly as possible and get on a roll.

“Scoring goals is a big part of my game and hopefully on Saturday I can get one.

“We know we will come out of this difficult time we are in but when you’re down at the wrong end of the table, things seem to go against you.

“The good thing about football is you always have another opportunity. You might miss out on one the week before but the following Saturday, you will have another game to make it right.

“On Saturday we need to go out and play how we have been playing, because I believe we have been playing well but we need to take our chance when they come.”
