'Keep going', says Kirkland

Following Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Bolton, Chris Kirkland has called on everyone connected with the club to stick together and keep going.

Wednesday produced one of their best performances of the season at The Reebok, at times dominating possession and asking all the questions, but couldn’t ultimately make it count by finding a winner.

But the Owls goalkeeper is confident his side will register their maiden victory of the term sooner rather than later with performances of similar quality in the coming weeks.

He told swfc.co.uk: “We were obviously disappointed with just a point. I thought we controlled the majority of the game.

“We started really well, utilising the pace we have up front but then we conceded a sloppy goal.

“We took that on the chin, responded brilliantly and got the goal at a good time because if you leave it any later, you start to get anxious.

“We’ve all just got to keep going, get on with it and give more performances like we did on Saturday.”

And in that assessment, Kirkland is including the supporters, who he described as ‘outstanding’ at The Reebok on Saturday.

He added: “The fans were absolutely brilliant at Bolton, as they always are. They are a fair bunch, they travel home and away and they always back us right to the end.

“Hopefully we can get that win for them soon because they have been outstanding for us this season.

“When you’re away from home, it’s hard enough as it is but when you run out and see 3,000 fans, which we do the majority of our away games, it gives you such a boost.

“And we need that from them because they are so important to us.

“As I’ve said before, they are amongst the best fans I have played in front of.”
