Ready for battle

25 October 2013

Jeremy Helan has fond memories of last season’s South Yorkshire derby tussles with Barnsley and is hoping tomorrow’s clash against the Reds will be another memorable one for Wednesday.

The Owls won home and away against Barnsley in the 2012/13 campaign and, having had a taste of the atmosphere in this fixture, Helan is excited ahead of the game.

He told swfc.co.uk: “It’s a big derby and that goes without saying. Everyone is looking forward to playing this game which is very important.

“Last season we went there under similar circumstances when there was pressure for both clubs.

“We got that win last time so hopefully we can do that again and get that first win in a big derby.

“It was good to be a part of that success last season and the players are ready for this one.”

Helan, who has made 12 appearances and scored one goal this season, added: “I’ve played in a few derbies now for this club and the passion from the fans is incredible.

“I think we’ve got a really good squad here, stronger than last season with the additions that we’ve made and I’ve got no doubt the wins will come.

“We have dominated certain games this season but we need to make it count by turning performances into wins."
