The experienced defender arrived on a three-month loan deal from Wolves this week and is determined to take his opportunity with the Owls.

He told Wednesday Player: “I’m a footballer and I just want to play football.

“The gaffer has given me the chance to come here and I am going to take it with both hands and am looking forward to it.

“I had great times with the manager at Cardiff and he has put his faith in me again and I won’t be letting him down.”

The defender, who has made 478 appearances throughout his career for Wycombe, Cardiff, Birmingham and Wolves, is now fully focused on the challenges that lie ahead at Hillsborough and getting back into the thick of the action.

And that could come as soon as this weekend when the Owls travel to St Andrews to face Johnson’s former club Birmingham.

He continued: “I know what the Championship is all about and I have massive belief that I can do the business at Sheffield Wednesday.

“This is a really good move for me and when the opportunity came around, I knew it was right for me.

“I’m looking to come here and play games. There are 17 games that I am here for throughout the loan period and I’m just looking to do as well as I can for the club and get myself back playing.

“I’ll be pulling and pushing a few people around. The gaffer has asked me to come in with my experience and make my voice heard on the pitch and that’s what I’ll be doing.”
