Kevin Wright Memorial

24 September 2013

Two SWFC internet forums, Owlsonline and Owlstalk, have gone toe to toe on the pitch in memory of Wednesdayite Kevin Wright, who sadly passed away this summer during the Owls’ pre-season trip to Portugal.

Playing for the ‘Kevin Wright Memorial Shield’, the aim of the game was to celebrate the life of Kevin and to raise money for charity of the Wright family’s choice, The British Heart Foundation.

Lee Hicklin, who helped organise the game, said: “We decided to have an 11-a-side game between the two forums for charity before learning of Kevin Wright's death in Portugal.

“I knew one of Kevin's sons (Ryan), so when I started organising it all I asked him if we could play in his honour, and for a charity of the Wright family's choice. He agreed, and asked for the proceeds to go to the British Heart Foundation.

Owlsonline claimed the honours with a 4-2 win earlier this month.

Lee continued: “Three of Kevin's sons played and one of them made the presentation to the winning team.

“We're planning on holding the tournament every year, and hopefully next year we'll have more teams enter.”

In total £418 was raised for the British Heart Foundation, so well done to all involved!
