Kirkland wins August award

6 September 2013

Chris Kirkland has won the swfc.co.uk Player of the Month award for August – lifting the title with a landslide vote of 45 per cent.

The Wednesday goalkeeper has enjoyed an excellent start to the new campaign, turning in a string of outstanding displayers between the sticks.

Kirkland continues his fruitful S6 stay having been an ever-present last season and winning numerous awards along the way.

He said: “I am delighted to win this vote and I would like to thank everyone who voted for me.

“I’d also like to thank everyone who had the confidence in me to bring me to Sheffield Wednesday when my options were limited.

“And I can’t speak highly enough of our goalkeeping coach Andy Rhodes and the medical staff at the club.

“It is an absolute pleasure to play for this club and I’m not just saying that, I genuinely mean it.

“The support we get home and away is unbelievable, it gives all the lads a boost when they run out to the kind of numbers we get.

“We have shown a lot of resilience in the last three games, there is plenty to build on so hopefully we can get that first win under the belt soon.”

Liam Palmer came second in the August Player of the Month with 9 per cent while Jeremy Helan finished third with 6 per cent.

Thank you to all those who took time to vote.
