Jacques Maghoma is expecting a full-blooded affair this weekend as Wednesday host Doncaster at Hillsborough.
The Owls’ first S6 derby of the season is heading for another gate in excess of 20,000 and Maghoma is raring to go ahead of the occasion.
Rovers will make the short hop to Hillsborough also in search of a return to winning ways, now six games without victory, with just two points separating the South Yorkshire rivals.
He said: “I am raring to go. We want to win the next one and show to everyone that we are a good team and that we can compete and can win games.
“It’s not going to be easy. They are going to fight and we have to match them. I can’t wait for Saturday to come.
“We have to match their enthusiasm, hard work and tempo and after that I believe we have more than enough in our squad to go on and win the game.”
With the feeling of disappointment still raw from Saturday’s defeat at Birmingham, Maghoma believes the best way to make amends is by righting the wrongs on the field in the derby and emerging with a maximum haul of points.
“Birmingham scored at crucial times,” he said. “But as a group, we made mistakes and that is clear after analysing the game.
“It is small margins. Everyone wants to support each other, from the manager down to the players. We have to pick ourselves up. I think once we get our first win, we will really kick on. It’s not time to panic.
“We have to do the basics right and our qualities will come through.”
