The 23-year-old defender, on loan from West Ham until the end of the month, has seen plenty of encouraging signs during his first two games for the club.

Ahead of Saturday’s trip to St Andrews, Spence said:

“That first win is something that is high on the agenda for us.

“Football is a game where you have to remain level headed; not get too disappointed with defeat and not get too carried away with victory.

“You can look at it a few ways, on the one hand we’ve drawn four games and are still without a win but on the other hand we have been tough to beat.

“It’s a long season but I believe we’ve got more than enough in this dressing room to turn those one point games into three.”

From a personal perspective, Spence is enjoying his football at Wednesday and the chance to play regular first team football.

“I am very much enjoying it here but obviously the most important thing is the results on the pitch,” he added.

“We produced a good performance at Middlesbrough and won a hard-fought point but we are disappointed not to have done better last week against Yeovil.

“So overall, it’s going well but there is plenty to build and improve on.

“As long as I’m playing regularly, I will get better, I’m really enjoying it here so it’s a great fit.”
