Antonio in contention

2 April 2014

Owls head coach Stuart Gray has revealed that Michail Antonio is in contention to face Leicester on Friday.

The 24-year-old has made a return to training after suffering ankle ligament damage in the February clash with Huddersfield.

But with almost a full week under his belt at the club’s Middlewood Road training base, Gray has said the forward is in his mind for selection against league leaders Leicester.

This will serve as a significant boost for Wednesday, providing Gray with further ammunition to tackle the high-flying Foxes.

Gray said: “Michail Antonio is back in full training and he’ll come back into my thoughts.

“He was our top scorer last season and we’ve missed those goals.

“He’s been frustrated and we’ve been frustrated because we want him out there battling for the shirt and hopefully he’ll stay fit for the run-in now.

“He’s been back in training for four days without any reaction so it’s the intensity of a first team game that he is going to have to rise to but he’s a naturally fit lad anyway.

“One thing I do know is that he will be a big asset for us.”

Elsewhere, Sam Hutchinson (knee) will be monitored ahead of the game while the Owls have no fresh injury concerns ahead of the King Power clash.

Gray added: “Sam Hutchinson is touch and go.

“He has been fantastic for us but is struggling with a knee problem. Credit to him though because he is eager to play as much as he can and offers us something different.

“He breaks things up and gets his foot in and is fully committed.”
