Never give up

13 April 2014

Atdhe Nuhiu has said he refuses to give up on anything in all walks of life and highlighted this on Saturday by scoring two late goals at Hillsborough to rescue an unlikely point.

Blackburn led the Owls 3-1 until the 72nd minute when Nuhiu swept home to reduce the arrears and then completed the comeback with an emphatic strike deep into added time.

Nuhiu said: “My character and personality is to never give up, not just in football but in all parts of life.

“It would have felt wrong if we would have lost the game because we played better than what the result suggested at half time.

“We had opportunities and always felt we were in the game.

“We showed just how much we wanted it in the second half and we could have gone on to win.”

Nuhiu’s double over Rovers moved the striker onto six goals for the season, and the man himself described the moment his strike rippled the back of the net in added time, saying:

“I was slightly out of position so I had to take a touch but luckily my touch was good and it gave me the opportunity to shoot and I could see the ball was going in.

“It made me feel very happy.

“I didn’t put a target on how many goals I wanted to score this season. A striker should be judged on goals but for me, I’m a team player; we win as a team and lose as a team.

“I train really hard during the week and I think the fans appreciate that. I never give up a ball and this will never change.”

The big striker spoke to the media post-match and the full press conference is now on Wednesday Player.

A short clip from the interview is available to watch below on the Owls' YouTube channel.
