Palmer goes back to school!

2 April 2014

To mark an exciting new link between the Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme and Renishaw Primary School, Owls star Liam Palmer paid a recent visit to the pupils last week.

The SWFCCP now provides a range of activities to the school in North East Derbyshire on Thursdays and has become a valuable partner.

Having coached Liam as an Under-8 and Under-9 at the academy many years ago, head teacher Simon Fuller was delighted that the academy product was able to visit the children at the school.

Liam fielded all kinds of questions from the youngsters and posed for photographs with classes.

Simon said: “It was fabulous for the children at our school to meet Liam and it is amazing to think the last time I saw him was as an Under-9.

“He’s a brilliant example of how hard work and dedication can result in achieving your goal. The children loved the experience and Liam was superb with them. It’s great to see him doing so well.

“We hope our partnership with the Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme will be a long and fruitful one for the club and for all the children at our school.

“The staff were fabulous. With the help of John Williams, Steve Taylor and the rest of the community team, we are keen to develop all areas of our PE, sport and extra curricular programme. We have great plans for the future.”

The SWFC Community Programme will give support to the school with extra curricular activity clubs, working with teaching staff on delivering high quality PE lessons and are planning holiday activity camps in the school community.
