Team Lee wristbands on sale for Owls fans

25 April 2014

After the launch of a special partnership in memory of late soldier, Fusilier Lee Rigby, Sheffield Wednesday are now selling unique wristbands to help support the cause.

The affiliation between Sheffield Wednesday and Lee’s family, ‘Team Lee Rigby United Forces’, will offer help and support emotionally, socially and financially to Armed Forces’ families who have suffered bereavement.

Lyn Rigby, who attended Wednesday’s Easter Monday game against Charlton, was overwhelmed with the level of support the Owls fans showed to the new partnership.

Lyn conducted the half time 50/50 draw and was joined on the pitch by another VIP for the day, Paralympic Team GB skier and lifelong Wednesdayite Mick Brennan. He joined Lyn at Hillsborough to show his support for Team Lee.

To mark this ground-breaking partnership, the Owls are now selling custom-made Team Lee wristbands, with all proceeds going to the organisation.

Sheffield-based promotional gifts supplier, Steel City Marketing, have produced and donated 5,000 wristbands.

Sheffield Wednesday will be the first of a selection of high profile football clubs in selling the wrist wear.

Spencer Taylor, CSR Manager at Sheffield Wednesday, said: “Sheffield Wednesday are so pleased to be leading on this great partnership with Lyn for Team Lee. Everyone at the club was so impressed with the level of support the fans gave to Lyn at the Easter Monday game against Charlton.

“The Team Lee wristbands are a great way for our fans to further their support for the cause and we hope many Owls get behind the partnership moving forward.

“Many families, like Lee’s, are left to deal with the aftermath of conflict and this partnership will offer emotional and financial support to those who need it most. The money raised from the wristbands will go straight to the organisation and will directly benefit those who are affected.”

Lyn Rigby said: “The reception I got from Sheffield Wednesday fans at the Charlton game was so incredible which just makes me even happier that it’s this club that will be pushing the Team Lee partnership.

“The wristbands look great and are a perfect way for people to show their support for the cause. I hope Wednesday fans are able to continue their support and help represent Team Lee by wearing one.”

The Team Lee wristbands are now on sale in the Owls Megastore priced at £2 with all proceeds going straight to Team Lee Rigby United Forces.
